Child Sacrifice and the Compassion Roadblock

25 March 2004

By Yisrael Ne'eman

Yesterday, 14 year old Hussam Abdu of Nablus attempted to walk through an Israeli Army roadblock while strapped to a suicide homicide bombers belt. Alert paratroopers from the 202 Battalion quickly discovered the explosives and with the help of a police robot disarmed the youth. Hussam was given 100 shekel ($22) to blow himself up in the middle of the soldiers. Furthermore, his Tanzim operators (members of Yasir Arafats Fatah) promised him 72 virgins in the next world and explained to the unfortunate boy that this was the only way he would ever have sex. Hussam told investigators of his fears in accomplishing the deed but added that he did not blow himself up because there were too many Palestinians in the vicinity and not enough soldiers. Now though, he will be a hero, even if he fears his mother will be angry with him.

A week and a half ago Abdullah Koran, aged 12, made his way through the same Hawara roadblock and was caught by a military policewoman when asked to unpack his bags. He was clueless as to the explosives he was carrying. They were to be activated by Palestinian terrorist remote control. He had simply been told to take the package through the roadblock. In the end, luckily, the devise failed.

From the outset of the 3.5 year Low Intensity Conflict (LIC)/Terror Offensive, and until the present, sacrificing children has been a major element in Palestinian terrorist thinking. During this period Palestinian/Islamic society continually glorified death and the martyr (shaheed). Even small children (along with their parents) have reconciled themselves to the role of human sacrifice while massacring Jews.

At the outset Palestinian Authority Chairman Arafat had children march towards IDF positions with his terrorists and PA Police firing over their heads at the soldiers in the hope that the ensuing crossfire would leave pictures of dead and wounded children as media fodder. For a while he succeeded. Later children were used for smuggling in weapons, ammunition and explosives through tunnels under the border between Gaza and NE Sinai. Quite a few children suffocated or were trapped alive when tunnels collapsed or were destroyed by IDF forces. Two years ago bomber belts hid under a 3 year old riding with his mother in a Palestinian ambulance were discovered at a roadblock outside of Jerusalem. Kindergarteners present their final play in school and camp whereby they act out a suicide homicide bombing at the Western Wall, killing as many Jews as possible. Now the children are the bombers themselves, either willingly like Hussam or unwillingly as was the Koran boy.

The vile brutality of Palestinian society is hard to fathom, but it is a fact. Compassion plays no role, except for the Hawara roadblock itself whom the Nablus residents referred to it as the Roadblock of Compassion, because of the fair treatment given by the soldiers, as opposed to other places where behavior by the military was considered harsher. So the terrorists did the logical thing and chose Hawara for their foul deed.

Arab commentators are blaming the Israeli occupation for such abhorrent Palestinian behavior. They of course, conveniently forget that since the 1993 Oslo Accords, Israel has agreed to end the occupation and implement a two state solution. Todays continued occupation is a result of Arafats policies in attempting to exterminate the State of Israel through continued terrorism, using child sacrifice to attain his goal.
